OVERNIGHT or THREE DAY TRIPS
For those lucky enough to have the chance a two or three day charter aboard JABBERWOCKY offers a taste of life aboard and a wider scope for exploration and adventure.
TWO DAYS, ONE NIGHT
DAY ONE – sailing north from Jolly Harbour past Hawksbill Rock and the port of St Johns, JABBERWOCKY first drops anchor in Dickenson Bay just in time for a cooling dip before lunch. Hoisting the sails once again JABBERWOCKY beats her way up wind carefully navigating the reef strewn area south of Jumby Bay towards Great Bird Island
Uninhabited, Great Bird Island lies off the north western coast of Antigua and offers superb snorkelling and swimming and is often home to a colony of star fish. A popular tourist attraction during the day, the tour boats and thier passangers depart as the afternoon draws to a close, leaving the reef and the island once again undisturbed and providing a peaceful overnight anchorage. There is a chance to streach your legs and expolre the island before sunset, returning to the yacht for dinner on board whilst watching the lights of Antigua in the distance.
DAY TWO – a morning swim and snorkel , before setting off once again. This time a down wind sail to a lunch time stop at Deep Bay where there is a chance to snorkel on the wreck of the Andes, enjoy some beach time or if you are feeling energetic scramble up to Fort Barrington. Lunch is again served on board before retuning to Jolly Harbour.
THREE DAY CIRCUMNAVIGATION
DAY ONE – sailing north from Jolly Harbour for a lunchtime stop at Dickenson Bay, then on to Great Bird Island to anchor for the night.
DAY TWO – With the sun high in the sky its perfect time for a morning swim and snorkel on the coral heads off Gt Bird. In this shallow calm water the coral is good and colourful and a verity of fish have made it their home. All aboard once again and time to retrace our steps back down the coast cutting out though the reef into the Atlantic and up wind to Green Island. Green Island located off the south eastern coast of Antigua, an idyllic spot to anchor, shallow water and good snorkelling with a beach and island to explore. This island has no artificial light so dinner under the stars by the light of the moon is just awesome.
DAY THREE – After an early breakfast the sails are raised once again, a fly by look at English Harbour and the historic Nelsons Dockyard. A final lunch and chance for a last swim at Carlisle Bay and then back to base at Jolly Harbour – and the circumnavigation of Antigua is complete.
THREE DAY TRIP to BARBUDA
DAY ONE – Barbuda lies 25 miles north of Antigua and offers amazing reefs and deserted beaches. Starting from Jolly Harbour first sailing sail north along the western coast of Antigua navigating the reef through the Boon channel and across open sea to reach Barbuda by late afternoon. Time to explore the 17 mile beach (well a little of it anyway), swim in the translucent water and watch the sunset. Then back to JABBERWOCKY to enjoy a freshly prepared dinner under a starlit sky unspoilt by artificial light.
DAY TWO – After breakfast go ashore to explore the island by taxi and visit the frigate bird sanctuary. Or stay on board as JABBERWOCKY navigates her way through the reefs and coral heads to anchor to at Spanish Point. Here the waves crash noisley on the outside of the reef but JABBERWOCKY is safely tucked on the inside of the reef where the water is calm and the snorkelling is truly amazing.
DAY THREE – After a leisurely breakfast and perhaps a final swim. JABBERWOCKY sets sail for home .
